ST. PATRICK'S DAY HORROR!
On Thursday 17th March, 2022, the world comes together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the wonderful folks from Ireland! For those of you who don't know who St. Patrick is, here's a brief introduction. He was actually born in Roman Britain and kidnapped when he was just 16years before being sold into slavery in Ireland. He escaped and later returned around 432CE to convert the Irish to Christianity. Legend has it that he even chased away all the snakes from Ireland!! So, St. Patrick's Day is the day this guy’s amazing achievements are celebrated by the citizens of Ireland and their friends around the globe.
I consider myself a friend of the Irish. In my book, The Sleepless, I acknowledged and thanked the Irish people and the Irish Catholic Holy Ghost Fathers, whose Africa Concern organisation and Ghostline relief aid helped keep me and countless other Biafran refugee children from starving and dying from Kwashiokor during the dire years of the Biafran-Nigerian War. So yes, I owe the Irish people the debt of my life and ensure I celebrate their feast of St. Patrick’s Day with them every year.
This year, I want to celebrate it with you by bringing you a wonderful Irish chiller from one of Ireland's wonderful writers and a very dear friend, Ted Dunphy! Ted has published several books and his novel, The Devil to Pay, set in 1930s Ireland, is a harrowing tale that will haunt you for years after reading it. And on 17th March 2022, you’ll all get a chance to experience Irish horror at its very best. The story, The End of Life, is one you can't afford to miss. You've been warned 😄
Now for other stuff….gentle reminder that voting for the BSFA award shortlist ends tomorrow. My longlisted novella, The Abomination, published by The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 2021, and recommended by Locus magazine reading list, is eligible for nominations in the short list. So, please do consider it if you can vote. It’s already a great privilege to be longlisted.
That's it for now. Enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to check both your inbox and spam on 17th March 2022, to ensure you don't miss out on the coming St. Patrick’s Day chiller. Stay safe as ever 🙏🏾
